In the words of one of our attendees at your Stand Up For Mental Health presentations on fighting the stigma at work, “your comics are an inspiration!”

You and your comics brought lots of laughs to our workplace, and also helped raise awareness around mental illness in a positive and fun way. Another of our attendees said, “I now look at mental illness in a new light.”

I think that everyone left with an increased appreciation of what people with mental illness face, and a sense of compassion and wanting to reach out to help coworkers who may be suffering from it.

On behalf of the BC Schizophrenia Society North Shore Branch, thank you very much, David, and please extend our thanks to your performers, for an exhilarating evening from a great group of comics.  Our members enjoyed themselves tremendously.  I hope some of your troupe consider comedy as a career as there is no doubt of their talent.

Barbara Wallin, Executive Director
B.C. Schizophrenia Society, North Shore Branch

I want to thank you and your comics for your contribution to our Team Day. Feedback from the staff was very positive and included words like courage, destigmatize, humanize, admiration, inspire and inspiring, talented, potential, and not to forget, just a whole lot of fun. From this we have all been touched by the effort that it takes to reach beyond our expectations both for our clients and now for ourselves. We will forever view the potential in each person whose life we are involved with greatly expanded horizons. Thank you for creating this opportunity for us to learn and grow as people and as professionals.

We would like to thank you for being a part of our Mental Health Week celebrations. The audience responded in such a positive manner to all the comedians. Some of the comments after the show were: “It was so funny and true…They are just like I am…I really liked it, it was so funny…I laughed so hard…It was really good…I enjoyed that.”

The humorous show was a resounding success, thoroughly enjoyed by our residents. It was a wonderful addition to our Mental Health Week celebrations.

Your Stand Up For Mental Health show on fighting the stigma at work was fabulous. You and your comics had us in stitches, with non-stop laughs from beginning to end during our well-attended lunch and learn.

You also showed us the courageous, funny and resilient side of mental illness, and everyone left with admiration and a deeper and more compassionate understanding of the people who have it. It’s amazing that you were able to keep us laughing while talking about such a serious subject. The humour made people more open to your message.

Your presentation opened a door and made it easier for us to talk about mental illness in the workplace.

Thanks for the great show that you and your group of comics did for Pathways Clubhouse. It was so inspiring to see people with mental illness find the humor in their struggles and share it with our members. The fact that several of our members were part of the show was also of great benefit both to them and to the audience. Your work truly gives people with mental illness a chance to showcase their talents, boost their self-esteem and reduce public stigma around mental illness.

Thank you again for presenting at our recent annual conference. The stand up show was a hit, the counsellors were extremely impressed, the comments I received were, “Bring them back again.”  Please send your colleagues a huge thank you and a job well done we were very impressed.

Your group showed that laughter not only brings joy but also greater awareness and insight into the lives of people diagnosed with mental health issues. At the same time you empower individuals to tell things the way they are with honesty and humour. It is tremendous work you do and we are grateful to have benefited from it.

I’ve heard rave reviews from everyone since you did your show here this afternoon. You offered such a wonderful and refreshing perspective on mental health and gave us such a good laugh at the same time! Your work/passion is very inspiring – you deal with subjects that are traditionally taboo, help break the stigma of mental health issues, normalize the challenges and poke fun at the systems, ourselves. What you are doing is true advocacy, and it’s very effective, and VERY funny!

The show you did for our staff was awesome. You really helped us to see mental illness from a whole different perspective. We were so impressed by the courage and humour of your comics. As you know, many of the people we serve suffer from mental illness, and your presentation helped us to find humour in some really serious issues.

Our clients and staff really loved the Stand Up For Mental Health comedy show your group did for us. It was not only hilarious, but also very inspiring to see what people with mental illness are capable of doing.

Your comics are not only extremely brave, but also very funny! We really appreciated and related to their humorous look at the challenges people with mental illness face.

On behalf of the organizing committee for the 7th Annual Fraser Early Psychosis conference, our heartfelt thanks to you and your comic colleagues.  Indeed, the standing ovation said it all! The 400 members of the audience loved the Stand Up For Mental Health show you and your comics did for us. It was a huge success and really made our conference special. Our colleagues will be talking about your show for a long time.

SUMH is a powerful way to ensure that clients and families are represented in a conference program. It was hilarious and inspiring to see your comics talk about their mental illness and addiction issues in their acts. Our people could really relate to what they had to say.

We were amazed at how professional the comics were. It’s great to see the funny courageous side of our clients, and in our line of work we can always use a good laugh.

We’d be glad to recommend you to other groups putting on events.

The words of one of the attendees said it all when she said that two years from now she would not remember what some ‘expert’ on mental health had said- but she would never forget the ‘Stand Up for Mental Health’ presentation that you and your ‘mental health consumers’ gave us. The presenters made us laugh and helped us open both our hearts and our minds.

Each of the presenters was unique and wonderful- and you did a superb job of putting everyone at ease, creating a context for the show, and together with your team, giving people the message that no matter what the obstacle, with support and acceptance, people can move forward and succeed in their lives.
